DVD Functions
DVDs provide many additional functions
compared to normal movies. Most important of them are interactive
menus, multiple audio and subpicture tracks, multiple camera angles,
chapters.
Most of the functions are controlled from the DVD Toolbar and OSD Main menu. Subpictures and audio streams can be selected in Stream selector. Previous / next chapters can be selected with Previous / Next track in Play, Seeking, Speed, where the playing speed can also be controlled.
Chapter and title can be selected in the Playlist window. The titles
are displayed in the root of the tree, every title item has subitems
representing the chapters that are defined for that title.
Note: The subtitles are stored as streams of bitmaps on the DVD (not
text) and thus you can not edit them in SP. They can be ripped from the
DVD and converted to text using OCR methods. An excellent program
called SubRip can do this job.
Change disc
This function can be used on computers with multiple DVD drives. When
you have a two-disc movie, put one disc in one drive and the second
disc in the second drive. When the first part of the movie finishes,
simply press this button and the DVD in the second drive will be
automatically opened. When there is no DVD currently opened, this
function opened the DVD in the first drive. When the DVD in the second
drive is playing, the disc from the first drive is opened. The drives
can be configured in Settings.
Quick language
This function automatically selects pre-configured audio and subpicture
stream so there is no need to select them from the DVD menus. Useful
with two disc DVDs which have a starting selection of language but this
selects national dubbing and you want to have original sound with
subtitles - this would involve using the menus (and that may be
unwanted interruption in the middle of two-disc movie) but with Quick
language it's a matter of a single click / key press.
